A Tribute to my Father, Doug

Today, we said goodbye to you. Today we talked about who you were with your time here on earth.

Today, I poured my heart out to the family. This poem I wrote for you dad. This poem has brought me healing. I told you I would be okay, I'm doing it the best way I know how. So here, Dad, this one is for you.

Angels

You gave me life, Thank you.

Your soul was crushed, and you never healed.

You blamed yourself, you were scared.

The deep sleep comes and you are not okay,

to hide the pain, you take a drink of the spirits.

The spirits consume you and the pain is washed away.

You fell in love, married, and had two angels.

They couldn’t keep you afloat.

It was better for you to stay away and long for that life than to hurt those two angels.

Those were the lies.

In that cup of spirits, that was better, you broke those Angels’ wings and dreams.

You came in and out of the angels’ lives with the cup in hand, trapped in your mind.

Never truly there.

They say you are kind, loving, and helpful, they say you were a family man not to be trifled with. Are we worthy? Who are you? The angels want to know.

Holidays come and go, decades come and go, you have grandchildren now, and the spirits have your soul. The clocks of time keep ticking and history keeps repeating. Where are you?

Mercy, Mercy you cried out.

The angels did come, but, it was too late.

The damage had been done.

The spirits have your soul.

Where are you?

For Jesus stepped in when you weren’t there,

The father who provided perfect care.

He healed us as you went away, forgive him Jesus cried, forgiven you shall stay.

The spirits have your soul.

In your final days, your angels swoop in,

They took you under their wings,

The refuge of Jesus portrayed,

The spirits have your soul.

Now you’re gone.

What could have been will never be,

The two angels are in sorrow.

Where are you? The two angels must know.

Jesus is our heavenly Father and He will set us free.
